Protection Principles – Psalms 91

Word of God has all the answers for our needs

Let me to share with you five steps for our security and protection from Psalm 91. In these days while there is so much of insecurity and destruction around, fear has gripped the hearts of many and people have been looking for safety and security. Even some believers have become victims of uncertain tragedies which has caused others to doubt their own safety. But the Word of God has all the answers for our needs. If we only put our trust in the Word of God and meet the divine conditions, we will surely see the answer – we will walk in safety and protection.

Psalm 91 is one of the most well-known Psalms for this purpose and from this Psalm we are going to study a few lessons.

ABIDING: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Verse 1).The foundation of our safety and security is DWELLING IN CHRIST. If we abide in Him, then we will have nothing to worry. His shadow (presence) will guard us. It is by faith and obedience that we dwell in Him. The Bible says, “We live in Him, we move in Him and have our being in Him”. If you want to know more about how to dwell or who can dwell in the presence of God then read, Psalms 15:1-5.

CONFESSION: King David says, “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust” (Verse 2). So today what are you saying? Because the Biblical principle is, God creates the fruit of your lips. Life and death is in the power of the tongue. It’s not just simply saying something but it is, what do you say of the Lord, who is He to you. Many people believe in their hearts that the Lord is their defense, protection, security but they never declare the same with their mouth. On the other hand they declare their fears and unbelief. But the Bible says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so”. Heb. 13:5 & 6 says that, Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “l will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

BECAUSE YOU HAVE MADE THE LORD YOUR HABITATION: there shall no evil befall thee (Verses 9, 10). King David emphasizes again that the Lord should be our dwelling place and habitation. We need to make the Lord our habitation – our everything! Some trust in chariots, some in horses but we will trust in the Name of the Lord.

BECAUSE HE HATH SET HIS LOVE UPON ME, THEREFORE WILL I DELIVER HIM: (Verse 14) do you love the lord? Upliftment and promotion comes when we love the Lord. The Lord will set us on high. Every promise will become ours when we love the Lord. These days many people want the benefits and blessings from God but not relationship. They even prefer somebody laying hands, praying for them because they want everything ‘fixed’ in their life and circumstances, but JESUS CHRIST is not a quick fix, He is Lord, He is worthy of our love. Therefore, the first commandment is Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and strength. A person who loves the Lord with all His heart is always satisfied and content.

WILL SET HIM ON HIGH BECAUSE HE HATH KNOWN MY NAME:(Verse 14). Name here represents nature. Have you known the Lord, have you known His nature? The Bible says that the Israelites knew the acts of the Lord but Moses knew the ways of the Lord. Paul’s greatest desire was to know Christ. We need to know our God. Each name of God reveals His character and He is according to His name. He is who He says He is. Proverbs 18:10 “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” The ever – increasing knowledge of His Name gives us protection.

Beloved, when we start following these five steps we are sure to walk in safety. No matter what may be the experience of other people or preachers, but as for us the Word of God is our guide and we have decided to follow His Word and be secure and safe. So I encourage you, let not your faith go down looking into what has happened to others and in your own life in the past. But as you follow these principles, the blessings of Psalms 91 will be yours.

God bless you!
